Privacy Policy
Local-first by design: exactly what DataBurrow's desktop app and this website do, and don't, collect about you.
Last updated: July 2026The short version
DataBurrow is local-first. Scanning, indexing, and analysis of your files all happen on your own computer. Your files are never uploaded to our servers, and the desktop application collects no usage telemetry. This page explains what limited data this website itself collects, and how the desktop application handles your files.
What the desktop application does with your files
DataBurrow reads file metadata, name, size, type, and modification date, plus a SHA-256 hash for duplicate detection, computed entirely on your device. Files with identical hashes are true, byte-for-byte duplicates, far more reliable than comparing names or sizes. It never reads file contents beyond what's needed to generate a preview you explicitly request, and it never modifies, moves, or deletes a file without your confirmation. The application makes no outbound network requests related to your files or file data; nothing about your files or folder structure ever leaves your device.
What this website collects
When you sign up for the newsletter or beta, or submit the contact form, we store the email address (and name, if provided) you give us, solely to respond to you or notify you about DataBurrow's launch. We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns to this website; it does not run inside the desktop application.
Data sharing
We do not sell your data to third parties, ever. Email addresses collected through this website are used only for the purpose you signed up for and are never shared for marketing by other companies.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you at any time by emailing contact@databurrow.com. Because DataBurrow's core product never receives your files or file data in the first place, there is nothing product-related to request beyond what's listed here.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Given DataBurrow is currently in pre-launch beta, expect this document to evolve alongside the product.
